The legacy of this honor dates back to 1981 with the first Lord Trapper, Perry Green, and the first Lady Trapper, Jean Kaufman, in 1997. Each year, former legacy members carefully select the new honorees from community nominations, ensuring that the tradition remains rooted in community values.

Throughout their year of service, they are invited to participate in key events and engage with the community in various capacities. They are joined by the rest of the Fur Rondy Royalty—comprising the Queen, Princesses, Sweetheart, Heritage Ambassador, and King and Queen Regents—at these festivities, fostering camaraderie and enhancing the festival's spirit.
